1st Burnmoor Scout Group
Durham
1st Burnmoor Scout Group provides a wide range of activities for children aged 6 and upwards, including Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and, Explorers. We also give parents, carers and members of the local community the opportunity to become leaders and serve on the Scout group committee.
We have extended our grounds to include adjacent derelict land, which was previously under-utilised and regularly used for fly tipping and anti-social behaviour. We have transformed the land to create a community garden, a campfire area, a wildflower area, and a bouldering and climbing wall. All of which enhance the local community.
We have now developed a crate stacking and archery area which we require funding to provide equipment to facilitate these activities such as harnesses, ropes, bows and arrows.
Crate stacking is an activity where participants work as a team stack and climb on top of crates to balance and get further from the ground, safely held by climbing harness and rope, the whole team is included with building the tower and need t work together to support it and pass more crates to whoever is on the top building trust and confidence in your team mates.
Anyone can try archery, with beginners learning the basics and those with experience sharpening their existing skills, target shooting competitions all require teamwork to succeed. Archery is exciting and fun and promotes team support.
These activities were all made through our members and people from the local community working as a team.
