ACLE Scout Group Award Icon Winner

Durham

ACLE Scout Group are a group of more than 70 children from age 5 -18, sectioned into 5 divisions including Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Senior Scouts and Rovers. Supported by 10 leaders, weekly sessions are ran within the community of Newton Aycliffe. Parents and carers become leaders, and the ACLE family has grown year on year. Even throughout COVID, the ACLE community supported each other.

Recently the scout field, which has remained at the heart of the group, has been removed from the scouts due to the local council requiring it for a new housing development. Therefore the scout field must be relocated during the summer of 2022. The fund applied for from Venator, would be used to set up a new scout field, that is used 3 times a week during 9 months of the year. The new land is derelict and has none of the amenities that the old land had. The money applied for would be used to create a campfire area, a wildflower area, and a play area (for younger members) as well as a log cabin structure to house equipment securely used by the scouts. Labour will be provided by members of the Scouts and the local community. All of whom are coming together to ensure that a vital part of the local community is not lost, due to the increased need to use our green spaces for housing.
