Backworth Park Primary School Award Icon Winner

North Tyneside

From September 2018, Backworth Park Primary School is moving from a small, central village location, which had very limited outdoor space, to a brand-new, purpose-built building, with a large and varied outdoor area, including dipping pond, fruit trees and forest area. This provides the children with an amazing opportunity to explore the natural world. In order to allow the pupils to make the most of the outdoor learning spaces, the school would use the grant to buy pond dipping and bug hunting equipment, sourced from the NHBS, specifically for these new areas.

This equipment would allow an entire class to investigate the variety of species living in the pond and surrounding wildlife areas. Practical classes such as these are important for promoting team work, as pupils tend to work in either pairs or small groups. Other key skill areas, such as scientific investigation, planning and communication, would equally benefit from these types of practical education.

The school is in a period of change, both due to the move into the new building and the appointment of a new Executive Head a year ago. We are constantly looking for new and exciting learning opportunities for the children, in order to make education as inspiring and beneficial as possible. The equipment purchased with this grant would help us to make the most of the amazing new outdoor space which the school now has.
