Billingham Amateur Swimming Club Award Icon Runner Up

Stockton

BASC as we are known have been training at Billingham Forum since the mid-1960’s. We have over 120 members and are open to anyone who wants to learn to swim competitively and train to a high standard in order to compete at various levels in British swimming.

Billingham is a totally amateur organisation run by volunteers, giving their services freely. The Club is run by a committee of officers, coaches and ordinary members.

As with most amateur sports clubs we have felt the backlash of austerity within local authorities with our pool hire fees incressing steeply, we currently have to pay around £13 per lane per hour and as we train 6 days per week with both mornings and evenings this takes up most of our income.

There are many other outgoings and if we were succesful we would put the money towards the following, training equipment, swim camps, team building days and to help with the equipment we need to host Swimming Galas.

Swimming is a predominantly individual sport however we train in squads as this gives the swimmer more incentive to suceed, we try and hold team building days to build the team mentality as shown in the pictures supplied
