Caedmon Primary School has 329 pupils and is situated in the 5th most deprived ward of the UK. We are located on the fringes of the former SSI steel site, and we border the local chemical site at Wilton. Due to this, many people from our local community work in jobs related to the chemical and sciences industries. Therefore, it is our aim to give our pupils a investigative science curriculum that will prepare them for their future lives. In turn, we will position them as scientists that are able to benefit our area in the future.

So why do we need the funding? During a recent OFSTED visit, science was identified as an area of improvement. Due to this, we have created a new investigative science curriculum. We believe that science lessons should be hands-on wherever possible, and our pupils should be carrying out experiments and developing ‘working as a scientist skills’. However, when we have planned these investigations, we have found we do not have enough high quality resources to enhance the pupils’ learning experience in the most effective ways.

As Venator is a chemical company, we think it would be fitting to purchase items related to chemistry. With the £250 we would purchase pipettes, beakers, test tubes, thermometers and hand lenses. These resources would be used immediately to enhance our pupils’ learning.

Thank you for your consideration.
