Cleveland Scouts Watersports Team
Stockton
Cleveland Scouts has had a watersport team providing paddle sport opportunities, such as kayaking, canoeing and rafting to young people since the 1990’s, but in the last 6 the team has gone from strength to strength to where we are now offering our services as a team of volunteers to over 700 young people each year, in scout groups across Cleveland county stretching from Hartlepool in the North to Saltburn in the East. Providing young people from all backgrounds with the opportunity to try new activities, that they may otherwise experience, while also developing key life skills such as team work and confidence. We operate on the bank of the River Tees in Yarm, Stockton on Tees in the North East of England.
Due to circumstances beyond our control we have had to move location in the past 18 months and have had to develop a site to operate at, from scratch. Due to the pandemic we were unable to offer these opportunities last year and as a result we made no income to cover our insurance and rent costs. Therefore we have a very limited amount of money to finish the site, in order to make it safe and fit for purpose for the young people. This work will allow us to keep providing our services for many years to come, enabling the young people from across Cleveland county to develop key life skills, while experiencing the thrill of trying out a new activity at the same time.
