Coxhoe Crusaders Netball Award Icon Runner Up

Darlington

Coxhoe Crusaders Netball Club was formed in March 2015 evolving from a 6 week Back to Netball programme launched by England Netball to encourage more women to get back into sport. Our club embodies that idea and today has over 30 female members who attend training sessions and form two teams who currently participate in the Durham City Social Netball league. In December last year we also launched a Walking Netball session, a slower version of the game designed so that anyone can play regardless of age or fitness level. The weekly sessions are attended by over 20 individuals and are followed by a coffee morning as part of the “wiggle and giggle” movement to improve both mental and physical health. The club funds itself through memberships fees , an annual tournament and bake sales as well as local sponsorship. As the Netball World Cup will be held in Liverpool in 2019 we would love to be able to support the event and bring the two strands of our club together to attend a game. Given the shortfall in funding for our national team we would like to show our support and simultaneously inspire our members to continue in their efforts (and perhaps show them how the game should really be played). We would ideally like to use the Together Fund to provide a coach to Liverpool, hopefully reducing the cost of the trips and enabling more of our ladies to participate.
