Darlington Harriers & AC Award Icon Winner

Durham

Darlington Harriers & Athletics Club was founded in 1891 and currently supports over 400 members across all age groups from junior under elevens through to senior and masters categories.

The club provides coaching and support for athletes wishing to compete in road running, cross country, fell & train running, and track & field. The club also works with complete beginners wishing to improve their health.

The club has achieved the Sport England Clubmark award for good management practice, and was this year presented with the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service, the MBE for voluntary groups in recognition of the club’s support for the local community and other volunteer groups and charities.

This year the club has increased it’s offering to the community with increased Couch to 5K groups, has had athletes represent Great Britain at the World Para Championships, had athletes win the National School’s Cross County title, and seen both the junior and senior track and field teams win promotion in their respective leagues.

Darlington Harriers & AC has a huge impact on the community, whether  taking part in sport for health or competition goals.  A grant from the Venator Community fund would help the club recruit and train more coaches and officials to allow the club to continue, and increase still, the level of support we can offer to the community in Darlington and the wider area.
