Darlington Harriers & Athletics Club Award Icon Winner

Darlington

Darlington Harriers & Athletics club was formed in 1891 and recently celebrated its 125th anniversary. The club currently supports more than 350 members across all age groups and abilitirs involved in activities such as track & field, road running, cross country and fell running. Based out of Eastbourne Sports Complex in Darlington, the club is affiliated to England Athletics, Northern Athletics, and the North Yorkshire South Durham League. In 2017 the club achieved the Sport England “Clubmark” award, an award recognising good practice in club management and welfare standards.

The club is currently looking for funding for members to attend England Athletics courses to qualify as officials for athletics and running events.  Without qualified officials, the competitions that our members take part it, simply cannot happen. Allowing our members to qualify as officials would not just benefit Darlington Harriers, but also the wider sporting community, as our officials will be working at local and regional events involving other clubs and athletes.

Gateshead College is the venue for the next round of courses in November 2018. A £250 grant from the Venator Community Fund would allow nine new officials to qualify and support local athletes by allowing events and competitions to take place.
