Durham Amateur Rowing Club (DARC)
Durham
Durham Amateur Rowing Club (DARC) was established in 1860. It started out with a few gentlemen interested in aquatic sports and has gradually (over a very long period of time!) cemented itself as one of the North of England’s premier rowing clubs with strong ties to the community and developing new rowers. Growing the senior women’s and men’s squads is a priority for the club, both in numbers, and in ability! We do this with the help of our exceptional volunteer coaches. Durham ARC are in a wonderful position where we have many up and coming coaches rising through the ranks, developing from junior rowers, to senior before making a move into coaching. In order for our coaches to provide effective feedback, they cycle along side the crews watching and looking at ways for us to improve our performance both as a crew and as individuals. The bikes that they use are all generously donated by club members. However, given that a typical training session is 12km, and our coaches are out with numerous boats in a day – they are understandably hit by wear and tear. We are looking for contributions towards the upkeep and maintenance of our bikes – so that we can continue to grow the squad and bring more eager people from our local area into this sport in this amazing city!
