Durham

Durham parkrun is a free, weekly, 5km timed run that is a safe and easy event to take part in.

Our event takes place each week in Durham City and we encourage people of all abilities to take part; from those taking their first steps in running to Olympians; from juniors to those with more experience; we welcome all. First finishers typically take around 18 minutes, those that walk up to an hour. Each week we provide an event for around 400 participants who join us from the local area, from the Durham student population as well as visitors to Durham. Increasingly, participants have been referred to our event by local Doctors to help with physical or mental challenges. Many of our participants have formed strong social ties with others they have met at parkrun and look forward to weekly interactions with new friends. We provide support for participants who are registered as being blind or those with hearing restrictions wherever possible.

Like all parkruns, Durham relies on both monetary donations from the public and volunteers giving up their time to help out. We are hoping to use any award from the fund to upgrade our technology to allow our volunteers to come from a wider cross section of our community. This will allow our parkrun to develop and to continue to provide a large well-loved local event.
