Frederick Nattrass Primary Academy
Darlington
We are a primary academy based in a socially and economically deprived area of Stockton-on Tees. Our pupils and their families have limited experience of life outside of their immediate community. Our curriculum, both in its core offer and the enrichment activities which we provide, aims to develop pupils’ awareness of their future career choices and opportunities. We are aware that we have the scientists, mechanics and engineers of the future within our setting and we owe it to these pupils to provide them with broad, varied and truly interactive experiences that will inspire them to make career plans and develop the burning thirst for knowledge which will drive them to achieve them. Without these experiences our pupils may never discover their ‘element’.
We are asking for funding to support our Year 5 class in their https://www.greenpower.co.uk/ project, which we are delivering in conjunction with Cummins. Through this work, our pupils will build a Goblin car from a kit, under the supervision and support of volunteer engineers from Cummins. The project combines whole class input on an aspect of the car engineering (e.g. the breaks) followed by group work to build part of the car. All 30 members of the class will be involved in the construction. The finished car will be raced competitively at Croft circuit.
The project will cost in excess of £2000 in total. We are desperately seeking funding to ensure that we can maximise this, and future STEM learning opportunities
