Friends of Egglescliffe School Music
Durham
I am part of a small charity on Teesside supporting music education in our area. We buy musical instruments for loan to students at both our local comprehensive school but also to six local primary schools to help local children play a musical instrument regardless of their background or how much money their parents earn. We provide financial support to run music ensembles and to enable disadvantaged students to take part in extra-curricular musical activities.
Our ensembles offer children the experience to learn and support each other through music, which was evident when our urban voice ensemble used their talents to help a raise thousands of pounds for immunotherapy treatment for former student Evie Hope Whittaker who was suffering from a brain tumour.
Our big band also continues to wow audiences and provide opportunities for children to develop their skills and grow their confidence by working hard to develop a high standard of performance.
We would love to support them by running two workshops delivered by highly skilled musicians from the National Youth Jazz Orchestra. This will cost approximately £1000 and is something we wouldn’t ordinarily be able to access as workshops are usually held in London. We believe that working with a national standard coach will not only benefit them musically but will also help to increase their confidence and raise their expectations of what they can achieve.
We understand there will be many other worthy causes but we would be most grateful for any help you can give.
