Guisborough and East Cleveland Sea Cadets Award Icon Runner Up

Redcar & Cleveland

Our organisation is growing and we need to offer the cadets more! To enable us to make our training more exciting and appealing we need to purchase some new equipment mainly outdoor equipment including tents, sleeping bags, stoves etc. Outdoor activities are really important to the cadets as it enables them to stay fit and healthy whilst having fun camping, walking, orienteering, cycling, walking and a lot more. We are close to the Yorkshire Moors but unfortunately a lot of our youngsters never get the chance to experience life outdoors. This is mainly due to the fact that most of our young people come from disadvantages areas with social deprivation. We have cadets with social, emotional and mental health issues and find coming to cadets, meeting friends and being more socially accepted for them is overwhelming. By being able to purchase some new equipment we would be able to offer more exciting activities most of which other cadets are already doing due to the fact they are more financially stable. We were lucky enough to be awarded a grant last year which helped towards the cadets going to HMS Raleigh in Portsmouth. They had an amazing time and it gave them an insight into life in The Navy. Whilst there they were loaned some all weather jackets which we would also like to buy them some and then sell them to the cadets at a n affordable price. They can wear these on parade.
