Hapkido Teesside
Middlesbrough
Hapkido is a self-defence based martial art and our club in Middlesbrough has been in operation for 25+ years, now based out of Middlesbrough Sports Village. We have always ran as a non-for-profit organisation and as instructors we take nothing out of it other than the enjoyment of passing on knowledge and watching the development of the students. Fee’s taken for the classes goes on the hire of training space and anything left goes back into the club in the form of training equipment. We operate two ‘family’ classes each week on Sunday mornings and Tuesday nights with ages starting at 6 year old and we have no upper limit on age having more mature students on a regular basis. Generally class sizes are between 25 – 35 with many more names on the books working around shift patterns etc.
We keep the cost of training down so we can hopefully give everyone the chance to train with us. Self-defence skills are important as is the fitness which we focus on but what we have always been proud of is having a friendly class where people want to come down and be part of a group. With this though we have a large number to cater for and the equipment either for protection or to enhance training can be costly. If we are successful with this we would want to spend it on training equipment to offer something different to what we already do helping to keep the enthusiasm.
