Hartlepool Heat Basketball Club
The club exists for the benefit of those who wish to develop their skills in the sport of basketball. We utilise basketball to offer participants the opportunity to be healthy, enjoy, achieve and have fun in a safe and supportive environment. We provide players with technical training in addition to teaching the values of teamwork, responsibility and self-discipline. The club has developed from a community session to engaging with young people and now has 2 teams and prides itself on its inclusive approach meaning anyone from any background of any ability are welcome to join. We also provide community basketball sessions to encourage people to take part without the commitment of playing for a team.
The future of the club would look at an expansion of the numbers of teams and players currently at the club and also increase the level being played from local to national status. As well as developing talent for players of all ages and abilities, the club would also look at providing vocational courses that lead to qualifications in refereeing, table officiating, coaching, health and safety and first aid. As well as providing our members with life skills, this also allows the club to develop by providing in house referees and officials. Another avenue which we are would like to explore would be the chance to move into coaching school sessions to introduce the game of basketball as this does not seem to be a core sport in many schools.
