We would use a grant towards the purchase of specialist equipment that will allow our therapists to begin offering Neurofeedback Therapy to children with complex and profound disabilities in the North East.
This would help children to tackle the mental health challenges they have developed over the past year of lockdowns, shielding and isolation and make our centre the only source of this therapy north of Manchester.
Children with disabilities were disproportionately affected by lockdown and the withdrawal of normal day-to-day freedoms. Many children with disabilities have struggled during the pandemic with existing mental health issues, including depression and anxiety, while adapting to the new restrictions and living with the threat of coronavirus. Others have gone on to develop mental health issues due to the added stress and isolation they have experienced in lockdown, alongside the regression in their condition due to the long gap in therapy.
Neurofeedback Training can improve and correct brain function, thereby reducing the symptoms of Cerebral Palsy. Neurofeedback can reduce occurrences of spasticity and chorionic movement and can correct or improve muscle control, attention and focus, posture, articulation, mental function and processing, coordination, lazy eye and even IQ.
Furthermore many symptoms and disorders such as Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), mood and anxiety disorders, headaches, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Autism, sleep disorders and Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) can be targeted and improved through the use of Neurofeedback Training.
