Hill View Infant Academy Award Icon Runner Up

Sunderland

Nothing is more important than ensuring every child can read well. The present library facilities are in need of revamp; we want to create a space we can be proud of, which taps into children’s imaginations; one with hidey-holes and secret reading spaces, soft seating and exciting, interesting books. This will bring the library to life laying down memories of reading that will stay with children into adulthood.

The revamped space will make way for a number of initiatives with the local community, allowing them to gain valuable skills and knowledge through voluntary work and provide them with a purpose and a sense of achievement.

Within this amazing new space, the possibilities are endless for events and activities to take place. We will invite local authors, poets, and storytellers to inspire the children and bring the reading to life. We will host and run numerous events with the local community, such as learning activities for local parents to learn how to develop, support and encourage good reading habits and skills with children; have fathers, grandfathers and other male role models from the local community into school to read with the children weekly to help boys see purpose in reading; have a monthly volunteer book swap ran by members of the local community and host book themed events, such as ‘under the stars’ where children and their family members attend school in their pjs and we read stories in our new woodland library.
