For several seasons the Club has introduced badminton to young people – mainly year 7’s starting secondary school. So far, without charging anything for court hire; shuttlecocks or racket loan.

A key to maintaining enthusiasm is to provide match play and this season we are seeking to extend the number of matches. Also to extend to younger children.

The essential cost is to hire courts for Home matches; provide shuttlecocks of good enough quality to enhance play and provide transport (e.g. minibus hire) for Away matches.

International Tours have taken place in recent years and local young people have now played in 41 countries. Maintaining this involvement is expensive so we are seeking to provide local badminton matches at no charge to the players who already fund raise extensively for the tours. The Banner, when travelling, is to promote junior international friendship through sport. It is also an ambassadorial trip. This is admirably achieved especially in Europe where politics are laid aside allowing young people to relate on a common court. Please see photograph.

Players of all abilities are welcome and some with limited mobility also play.

Shuttlecocks cost over £17 per tube of 12. Court hire can be £30 per hour for 4 courts.

Extra funds being available will enable MORE young people – especially those new to the sport – to experience match play and hopefully increase their enthusiasm to keep playing; tune in to some coaching which is available; and take the practical involvement into later life.
