Leven District Scout Council
North Yorkshire
We are members of Leven District Scouts who have been given the opportunity to represent North Yorkshire and the UK at the 24th World Scout Jamboree 2019 in West Virginia, USA. “World Scout Jamboree is above all an educational event that brings together the world’s young people to promote peace and mutual understanding and to develop leadership and life skills.” -World Scout Jamboree official website
To attend the Jamboree, we need to raise £7,600. This covers the cost of travel and attendance at the Jamboree, as well as training camps and equipment. A proportion of the cost also supports Scouts from less fortunate places in the world to attend. We have been undertaking several fundraising activities, including Christmas tree collection, coffee mornings, Easter raffle, bag packing, a wine tasting evening and a sponsored hike. We have so far raised £6,470. We also have a busy calendar for the months ahead, including quizzes and Christmas stalls.
Once we return home, we will be sharing our learning and experiences with scouting and the wider community.
The whole combined experience of fundraising, attending the Jamboree, learning new skills, experiencing other cultures as well as looking after ourselves, will develop our organisational, leadership and life skills as well as our sense of responsibility of looking after each other and our planet. In a world with so much division, bringing together 45,000 young people provides an opportunity to heal and build bridges.
