Levendale School PTA
Stockton
We are Levendale Primary School PTA and are applying to Venator’s Bright Idea Fund to run a STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) club within school. Levendale is a small primary school on the outskirts of Yarm and the PTA fundraises for activities and equipment to enhance the experience for children at our school. The Venator fund would greatly assist Levendale Primary in providing this club for the children.
During Science Week, a wide range of STEM activities were enjoyed by children from age 3-11 such as making batteries from two pence pieces, vinegar and paper to making bridges from dried pasta and paper. The week was a huge success and the children’s enthusiasm was infectious as can be seen from the following quotes:
“Lots of different people do science, I liked it a lot, it was fun.”
“I want to be a pilot or mechanic because of this week.”
“I want to learn how to make things better for the world.”
“I want to be a scientist because of this week.”
Following from the week’s success, we would like to further the children’s interest in STEM subjects and believe that a STEM club would be a fantastic addition for the children.
The activities that we would run in the club would vary to include all aspects of STEM to open their minds further. The Venator fund would assist us greatly in supplying materials for experiments and to bring the world of STEM alive for the children.
