MVS Northumbria Grant Submission

Who are we:-

We are MVS Northumbria, a small Tyneside based branch, of a National Maritime Charity. Our main aim is to preserve life and property through education and training in maritime knowledge and skills. We also seek to preserve the maritime environment; help at maritime events and stimulate interest from the general public in maritime practice.

How are we funded:-

We are funded entirely through our membership subscriptions and any fundraising activities carried out by the unit members. Therefore grants such as these have the potential to make a significant impact to our ability to progress.

What would we want to use the grant for:-

If we were successful in this application we would put this money towards communication skills training for the crew members. These are accredited courses that all our team can benefit from either as first time knowledge or as refreshers. The ideal scenario would be for an accredited Royal Yachting Association instructor to come to deliver to the whole unit.

Why Communications training?

Clear and concise communication is vital to successful teamwork and the safe and effective operations at sea. Safety at sea, relies on teamwork and trust. A great way to build trust is to ensure that we have the best possible communications skills in our team. For our more established crew, this will be a skills refresher, and for our newer members this will be gaining new important skills.
