Newcastle Northern Angels
Hi! We’re the Newcastle Northern Angels, the Newcastle University’s competitive Cheerleading team. An integral belief, deep-rooted into our Club’s values, is that anyone who wants to join our club should be able to, no matter where they are from, or the funds available to them! We have lots of talent, but unfortunately our university can’t always provide the facilities we need to train safely, and this forces us to train elsewhere which comes with extra costs such as petrol costs when sharing lifts, or getting buses and taxis when there are not enough cars available, but some of our girls just can’t fund this, which leads to them being unable to train and this does not exactly inspire teamwork! When it comes to competitions, Cheerleading can get very expensive with companies charging entry per team member. We can only subsidise the cost in part, which means that all our team-members have to pay large costs for Competition fees throughout the year and for some of our students this is just not feasible, as they are struggling to pay rent, let alone pay for entry into cheer Competitions! But for us, teamwork means working as a team to train but, most importantly compete together! As a club that values inclusivity, we don’t want to discriminate against Cheer applicants struggling with funds! We want every girl on our team to be able to compete, promoting your greatest value – teamwork, and that’s exactly what your grant could help us do!
