Newcastle University Men’s Basketball Award Icon Runner Up

Newcastle

Here at Newcastle University Basketball, we strive for both personal and team improvement. However, one is fruitless without the other. This is why as a club we work collaboratively to ensure no man is left behind as the team progresses. This goes for both social and team basketball.

By hosting free social basketball sessions, we look to improve access to playing the sport here in Newcastle, and to provide an opportunity for students of any level to learn the game and play together as a team. It also provides the opportunity for club members to take develop leadership skills through coaching and leading sessions.

As the new season starts, we have to ensure that new team players are made familiar with the culture and style of play here at Newcastle Basketball. As training time is limited, introductory team meetings and our intra-club mentor system ensures that rookies feel comfortable and know they have someone to talk to if they have any issues.

This year, increased playing fees has left the club struggling financially. Players have already taken a hit financially as membership fees have had to increase to ensure the club can compete this year. The Together Fund grant would help to pay for new playing kits and any additional funds will go towards equipment for the team such as cones, team bibs and defensive blocking shields.
