North Shields Heritology Project Award Icon Winner

North Tyneside

We are a Registered Charity (Foundation CIO) based in North Tyneside. Our aim is to bring Local Heritage to life via Technologies such as Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality and Immersive Sound.

We have 4 Trustees drawn from the areas of Finance, Management, Tourism and Arts/ Culture.

If we were to win a £250 grant from the Bright Ideas Fund, it would assist us in creating inspiring content designed to fire the imagination of local Primary Schoolchildren.

This project aims to not just get kids interested in their heritage, but also in the tech we’re using to bring that heritage to life – tying into elements of their STEM subjects back in the classroom.

We aim to:-

1) Give local school children an understanding and access to the rich Heritage of the place they live via a medium they have an affinity with.

2) Take a group of school children to PROTO (the emerging centre for Tech in Gateshead) to show them the latest tech available and hear an inspiring talk from a STEM Ambassador

3) Give a talk to the School children on a local heritage topic and then either 3D model or use photogrammetry to re-create a local monument/object.

4) Present the Schoolchildren with ‘Heritology’ certificates and a 3D printed model of the scan that they have made.

We hope that this will open up the possibilities of future learning or work in the Technology sector – currently a thriving and pioneering area for The North East.
