Northern Proud Voices
Newcastle
We’re the Northern Proud Voices: an award-winning LGBT+ community choir. Founded in 2011, we’re the largest and longest-running choir for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender people and friends in the Northeast.
Set up to create a safe space for members to socialise and be creative together, we meet weekly in Newcastle. Our choir is made up of a diverse and lovely bunch of people and is an inclusive and welcoming environment. We share a love for singing all types of music under professional direction and are known for bringing the party wherever we perform! Being a non-auditioned choir, we welcome people irrespective of background or singing ability. Our aim is to make singing accessible to all and to develop our members both as a group and as individuals.
We are active in our local community, representing the Northeast at Pride events, charity concerts and choir festivals. We are also a member of the UK and Ireland LGBT+ choir network ‘Proud Voices’, an organisation promoting equality and diversity, raising awareness of LGBT issues and encouraging others to join the singing community.
As we are hosting Hand in Hand – the UK and Ireland’s LGBT+ choral festival – in Newcastle and Gateshead in 2021, fundraising is now a more important part of our activities. We intend to make the festival a celebration of the region. The Together Fund will be used towards our musical development, accompanist fees for performances to raise our profile and to leverage choir funds for fundraising events.
