Preston Primary School
North Yorkshire
Close your eyes and imagine…
You are a child again, curled up on a huge squishy beanbag, big enough for three, chilling out with your new book or reading a story to younger children in your school. You are surrounded by grass and trees and all you can hear is the sound of the birds nearby and the distant murmur of other children playing. Overhead is a sail canopy that shelters you from the sun and light rain, and next to you is what used to be a boring old wall that has been painted with a brightly coloured mural to stimulate your imagination…..
We are a small primary school in the heart of the Preston on Tees community and we currently have 212 children on roll, aged between 3 and 11 years. Our classes regularly meet together in family groups so that children of different ages can work and play together.
We aim to foster and develop a love of reading at all times, but every day is a busy day with lots of learning to fit in. With this in mind we are planning to enable the children to take reading outside of the classroom and make it even more enjoyable, by turning one of our outside areas into a comfortable and inviting environment surrounded by nature. We would like to buy new books, a dedicated storage trolley, some huge waterproof beanbags and a purpose built shed in which to store them safely away.
