Durham

We would use the fund to help buy materials for the engineering projects we are involved with as part of the College’s Future Engineers Scheme, a scheme which is designed to encourage more of our students to consider engineering as a career. Since the inception of the scheme we have more then quadrupled the number of students entering higher education to study engineering or into apprenticeships. We would like to bid for some money in order to help purchase materials for the UK Youth Rocketry Challenge which we are taking part in. We would also like to use it to take part in the Formula 24+ Greenpower Challenge – we have a kit car which we have developed and we now need to buy materials to build a car from scratch. We have recently been involved in the Junior Robot Wars Fighting league and any money we secure can be used to take part again in October. Our students are encouraged to make products for their Extended Project Qualification and one of our recent students built a drone (which we funded). It would be very useful if we could help fund further innovative projects that students want to engage with. Our Future Engineers Scheme took part in the six month EDT project where they designed a prototype for protective head wear for the company 3M which the company went on to use. It would be enormously helpful if we could secure some money for future projects.
