South Shields Volunteer Life Brigade
South Tyneside
South Shields Volunteer Life Brigade has provided rescue services on Tyneside for over 166 years.
The Brigade responds to over 120+ call outs a year over the last few years, with 36 responses this year, including during the pandemic. The volunteers train on a Monday night to Coastguard standards, we are a declared facility.
The Brigade is responsible for raising funds through grants, fundraising and donations, and online giving. Responding originally to ship wrecks, the team now respond to search and rescue on the cliffs, inshore waters, and cover as far as the Tyne Bridge. Running costs are approximately 20K a year.
We are training seven new members, the money would be used to equip the new members with protective coveralls and helmets required for operation.
