Spennymoor Town Band
Durham
Spennymoor Town Band are a friendly and inclusive fourth section brass band situated in Spennymoor, County Durham, North East England. Anybody and everybody, young and old, are welcome to join the band, and free tuition is offered for those wanting to learn how to read music and play a brass instrument.
We don’t charge subscriptions, and we have an assortment of instruments which we offer on loan to members. The band is based in Spennymoor Town Hall, and the twice-weekly rehearsals are open to anyone who fancies a blow. To encourage young players to take up a brass instrument, we also have a vibrant Junior band with players as young as 8 years old, that rehearses every Tuesday.
We have two Venator employees who play in the in the main band (Graeme Humphries from Greatham and Angus Welch from Customer Services) and Louise Rowcroft’s (Payroll Department) daughter plays in our Junior band.
The band recently came first place at the North of England Championships (4th section), which means that we will be going to the National Brass Band Finals in Cheltenham this September. It is an exciting time for the band and we are currently stepping up our fund raising activities to pay for the coach and hotel so that we are all able to attend.
The community funding from Venator will really help to keep the band going and allow us to keep introducing and supporting young players to the wonderful North East tradition of brass banding.
