Stahope Barrington Primary School Award Icon Winner

Durham

Stanhope Barrington Primary School is a small rural school based in County Durham. We are planning an exciting STEM week in school in June where we hope to inspire and motivate children to develop a love of all things STEM. We have arranged for professionals to visit school to talk about careers in STEM areas and we hope to get some exciting equipment into schools, such as robots and a planetarium, to encourage the children to further develop their interest and love of learning in this area.

Currently, our ICT equipment in school is basic and we are often unable to deliver parts of the curriculum to their full potential. We hope to secure some funding in order to purchase some Microbits to use with the KS2 children across our school. We will launch this equipment during the STEM week and continue to develop children’s enthusiasm and skills in the areas of coding and computer programming by offering an after school club, run by an ICT professional as well as teachers in school.

We feel that by purchasing this equipment we will be able to offer the children exciting opportunities to develop a love of coding and other STEM areas during school lesson time and in afterschool activities. This funding will benefit in excess of 80 children during STEM week itself but it’s future use will ensure we have the necessary equipment to meet the needs of many more children in the coming years.
