Sunderland
Sunderland Community Action Group was set up in 2015 to provide a range of positive activity’s to young people across the city of Sunderland. We currently provide an after school Youth club for young people who live in the Hendon ward which is located in the East of the city. The area has suffered from mojor deprivation and long-term unemployment. The ward is currently within the top 10% (IMD) area’s of multiple area’s of deprivation in the UK.
We provide local young people with a free, safe and nurturing environment which is accessible to all (Inclusive not Exclusive) Providing open access after school Youth sessions five evening per week. Young people take part in a range of fun sports based activities that promote healthy positive lifestyle choices, which helps promote and support the growth of self confidence and self esteem. We have achieve this by creating an open access Youth Hub based within the school, it has been furnished with a range of young people friendly accessories and equipment. On an evening the hub offers a open space where they can meet with their peers, develop social skills and strengthening community cohesion. Young people are encouraged to make their own positive choices, while participating on their own terms. We have a membership exceeding 250 and we get between 40 to 50 young people participating per night.
If successful we would like to purchase new sporting equipment as our current equipment is worn out and is in need of replacing.
