Tees River Rescue Award Icon Runner Up

Middlesbrough

Tees River Rescue is an Independent charity that has been set up to prevent injuries and accidents on the river Tees. We aim to become a fully independent & search and rescue team based in Stockton. Our team is made up entirely of volunteers who are all committed to making the Tees a safe place to be for all members of the community.

We do this through proactive river patrols and preventative education work to achieve our three core aims of patrol, search, and rescue.

We are relatively new and have ambitions to get our volunteers to be on call 24/7, 365 days of the year to respond to assist local emergency services at a range of incidents from assisting vessels in distress, concerns for safety and persons in the water. Many of these incidents are to assist with the search for missing persons, many of whom are vulnerable and face mental health issues such as dementia.

The charity accepts volunteers from everyone in the community and is seeking funding to be ensure that initial training and equipment costs can be met by the charity as we aim to expand our numbers. It costs a lot of money to recruit, train and equip people to be able to support us on the water and we need the help to provide this lifesaving equipment and bring together a fully inclusive team to work in this innovative way to reduce incidents on the Tees.
