Teesside Slot Car Club
Stockton
Teesside Slot Car Club was formed by three members, Mike Kettleson, his son Richy Kettleson and Pete McKendrick. The three of us spent over £3,000 of our own money building a track from scratch using MDF and plywood so we could provide a facility for people to enjoy this great sport. Think of it as “Scalextric on steroids” as our cars can easily cover a 100ft lap of this permanent, purpose built 6 lane track in under 4 seconds!
We rent a room at the Elmwood community centre in Hartburn, Stockton. We run a kids club on Tuesdays and provide the equipment for the young ones to enjoy the racing which is always fun and usually noisy! After the kids club and also on Friday evenings we race national classes of cars for adults. We also host rounds for national competitions managed under the governing body BSCRA, the British Slot Car Racing association.
A £250 award would help us immensely to upgrade our computer system. All the track power, race rotation, control and recording of total laps and lap times down to 1/1000 second is currently managed by a second hand PC running Windows XP. This is quite out of date and starting to become unreliable which can quite upset a race meeting. A modern PC would be a fantastic upgrade for us.
