Teesside Steelers Women’s American Football Club Award Icon Runner Up

Hartlepool

We are the Teesside Steelers Women’s American Football Club, a local grassroots, volunteer-led, not-for-profit organisation providing a fun, inclusive, empowering and competitive outlet for women who want to learn a fantastic team sport! We operate in an area of low socioeconomic status and poor health; our main focuses are to reach as many women from different backgrounds as possible, improve their physical and mental health, while keeping their participation costs low. To do this, we provide our ladies with all of their equipment i.e. helmets and pads to participate, and ask for a modest training fee in return. This season, we are competing, for the first time in our existence, in the top division, and in order to compete at this level, the Club would like to offer our players more with no difference to their subs. Should we be successful for this grant, we would use this money to pay for additional weekly training sessions at Norton Sport Village so that our ladies can bond, watch game footage, go through playbooks, train and prepare for their upcoming tournaments. These additional sessions will benefit us greatly, because we train in the winter months and can be let down with short notice by our current grass field ground provider; being able to access an all-weather 3G pitch will mean training can be guaranteed! The Women of Steel thank you for taking the time to read our application.
