The Owl Tree Children’s Cafe CIC
Newcastle
The Owl Tree Childrens cafe is a Community Interest Company at whose very heart is the essence of teamwork. The saying “it takes a village to raise a child” is so true, yet in our current world, parents and carers are becoming more isolated and receiving less support as extended families are decreasing, people are having to work longer or work shifts. . We have created a peer support drop in cafe that aims to provide a fun and stimulating experience for pre-schoolers but also encourages parents and carers to mingle, support and learn from each other.
We are open 5 days a week and families are invited to drop in when they like, for however long they like. We operate a full time cafe with affordable, healthy food options for children and adults, enabling parents and carers to meet for a cuppa, breakfast or lunch!
Our tables are laid out to facilitate conversation, with families encouraged to share their space with others. In addition, we have a designated “chatter natter table” dedicated to parents coming alone who would like to make friends / willing to chat.
We are run by paid staff and volunteers, ALL of whom are parents of pre-schoolers and who work together as a brilliant team to help others in their community.
We are always desperate for toys and craft resources and will be seeking to use the fund for this, freeing up vital income to ensure our insurances, rent and staff costs are covered.
