Tri Northumberland Award Icon Runner Up

Northumberland

Triathlon is an individual sport, where competitors battle it out to swim, bike and run against the clock – and each other. So where does teamwork fit in?

In August 2019 the annual national British Triathlon Relay Champions offers an unmissable opportunity for friends and club mates to race together as one team. Tri Northumberland would love to represent North East England at this national event, and we are bidding for funds to allow us to enter two four-person teams.

Over 100 teams of four individuals from across the UK will battle it out at the National Watersports Centre in Nottingham in a race comprising a 500metre swim, a 15km bike ride and 5km tag relay.

Each member of the team individually swims 500metres, before tagging their team mate, and so on, and so on, until all four people have completed the swim. Moving onto the bike, each athlete individually completes the 15km’s, until the last team member then tags the first team member to start the 5km run section, with the final athlete finishing in front on the grandstand under the Triathlon England gantry!

We’d be proud to bring a national triathlon prize back to the North East, as well as helping us raise the profile of the fastest growing sport in Europe in our region, doing our bit to help more people access triathlon – and of course celebrating the sport together, as a team.
