Trimdon Grange Community Association
Durham
We have been a voluntary committee since 1960 when we took over the building as a School from Durham County Council. The past few years we have gone from strength to strength by linking up with local businesses and partnerships, working together, involving the community and new volunteers, especially during covid we gained an army of volunteers from our local pit villages to help all the communities in any way we could, delivering prescriptions, leaflets collating all the local shops and businesses that offer delivery, ensuring people without internet access didnt miss out by hand delivering information to them regularly, calling to check on people.
We have networked with families over the summer to ensure the children are kept active and heathly, Trimdon has a high population of deprevation, and poor public transport, we linked in with the foodbanks and our volunteers to supply food parcels, 2 course meals every week and hygiene packs to ensure no one was feeling isolated or struggling. We also provided craft packs to the elderly and anyone isolating, the children were given pack lunches and activity and nature packs to keep them stimulated as well as Key Stage packs if requested.
Covid has brought our community together during hardship and we have excelled with our volunteers to ensure we are a sustainable community going forward. Seasonal indoor events were cancelled so we went outdoors in our local woodland creating a magical experience for families to enjoy and have something to look forward too
