Upstart Enterprise CIC
Newcastle
Upstart Enterprise is a social enterprise that works in disadvantaged communities across the North East on social action projects using ‘enterprise in disguise’ to bring volunteers together with their community centres for the good of the community.
The first of our ‘Enterprise in disguise’ projects funded by Awards for all Community lottery funding enabled us to work collaboratively as the delivery partner with Throckley Community Hall to help them plan their very first jobs and skills fair.
The Fawdon jobs fair will be held at Fawdon Community Centre NE3 2PL See the video which Councillor Linda Wright rightly states “shy bairns get nowt” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z6jFA3AKdtU&t=3s.
Like Throckley it will again be a partnership with the centre and community for the event to build their skills while doing good for their local community centre e.g. marketing, event promotion, leaflet distribution, event organisation. Many of these people will be unemployed or on low incomes and looking for alternative employment or training themselves too.
The total cost of the Fawdon jobs and skills fair will be £2050. Fawdon is an area which has high levels of youth unemployment and we had many come up to visit the jobs fair in Throckley earlier this year, as they work with Play Newcastle who work in both sites who identified a need for skills, training and jobs.
We are flexible on dates for this fair, so could run it in November or in Jan/Feb 2020.
