Veterans Onside Award Icon Runner Up

Durham

Five a side and Walking Football teams will meet weekly from May 2021. These teams are so important for the veterans who struggle with PTSD, anxiety and transition stress. Providing camaraderie and physical exercise these sessions improve both physical and mental wellbeing, reducing social isolation and loneliness for ex services personnel of all ages . After the game everyone gathers for a brew and banter for some this is the most important part of the event.

This grant would provide new kit to make them feel more like a team, new balls and pitch fees ensuring sustainability during these difficult times for small charities like ours. #veteranssupportingveterans

The teams were created in 2017and had to stop during COVID although we have supported veterans over Zoom and the phone we all need to get back together and on the pitch. Funding from Grow the Game finished last year.
