Vision25 Award Icon Winner

Stockton

We are a group of young adults aged between 19-25, part of Vision25, a charity in Stockton-on-Tees. We all love attending and enjoy a programme of fun, inspirational and motivational activities. There are 25 of us currently attending, we have a learning disability. There were no services specifically for our age group, it is not an easy transition moving from a supportive school environment into the adult world and having a disability makes it much harder for us than our peers.

We want to run a gardening project that we think will help transform our lives. We want to hire an allotment in a community setting in Thornaby that is currently disused and overgrown where we will use the land to grow vegetables and sell to our local community (and cook some for ourselves!). This will help us to feel integrated into the community rather than marginalised, excluded and discriminated against. We would love to be part of the gardening world and by selling the products we grow we plan to reinvest the money into the project to make it sustainable.

We think it will help improve our physical and psychological health, the fresh air, the idea of team working, helping each other, having fun and not feeling isolated. It will also help us to learn new enterprise skills for life and help us to build and maintain friendships. We want to reach our potential, shine and be stars, please support our great idea.
