Ward Jackson Church of England Primary School
Hartlepool
At Ward Jackson, we are wanting to increase the profile of STEM and we plan to do this by having a whole school STEM week. The proposal is to run a week of activities, to which parents and the wider community will be invited, to explore STEM and finish the week with a celebration assembly where pupils can showcase some of the fun and exciting projects that they have completed. The plan is for each class to teach all subjects for the week driven from a Science focus. The funding would help in funding specialist providers to come in and work with the children and for resources required to complete the projects to a high standard, ensuring all pupils have access to the resources required and not needing to share 1 between 6 and reducing the levels of engagement. We already have good links with the secondary schools in Hartlepool and Hartlepool Further College of Education (HFCE) and 2 years ago we ran the first ever STEAM event in the North-east in conjunction with HFCE. We would hope to work alongside these providers as well as the numerous businesses located around the school as we are located next to an industrial estate in an area of high deprivation. If possible, we would like to focus on an element of engineering linked with the heritage of Ralph Ward Jackson who played a big part in growing/developing the shipbuilding and railway to Hartlepool.
