Wylam Rainbows, Brownies and Guides Award Icon Winner

Northumberland

Every week, over 60 girls and young women aged 5-14 meet at Wylam Rainbow (5-7) Brownie (7-10) and Guide (10-14) meetings. Girlguiding is all about fun, adventure and friends, and the promise that all members can make encourages us to serve our communities.

All Wylam Girlguiding units are firmly rooted within our community, taking part in village events including Remembrance Sunday parade and service, litter picks, Summer Fair and Christmas celebrations. We have regularly helped to decorate our village stores windows for special events and we are adopters of our railway station via Northern Rail and Tyne Valley Rail Community Partnership, we want to work with other village groups and individuals post Covid-19 to make our station a pleasant place for everyone.

Winning Venator funding would mean that our Rainbow unit could have a flag for Remembrance Sunday or we could buy a litter picking set for our units or we could work with a local artist to paint a mural at our railway station. If we received one of the larger amounts of funding we could use the money towards an adventure day at a local activity centre and share the fun we ave had with our local community, hopefully this would change some of the outdated views people hold about Girlguiding and encourage more adult volunteers meaning more girls and young women could have valuable experiences with us.
