Youth Focus North East
Middlesbrough
Positively Pally is an open access youth provision in the Pallister Park ward of East Middlesbrough for young people aged 10 to 18 years. Young people from the area face many challenges such as poor health, low aspirations, poor housing and leaving school with no qualifications. Young people from this area face some of the biggest challenges in the country, this area is in the 10% most deprived areas in the country (IMD 2019).
Our project is designed to be open and accessible to all young people. We are providing a safe space where young people can come together, have their voices heard, develop new skills, and be given opportunities to try something new. This space has been found to be one of the only other positive structured activities that young people engage in other than school. Therefore delivering these opportunities within this space provides young people the chance to learn in a fun and informal way.
Through this funding we can support young people to enhance their aspirations. Our work around STEM has already had a positive impact on the young people we work with through offering hands on activities that not only the young people enjoy but is an informal way of learning. In turn young people will develop their skills in science, technology, engineering and maths in a fun and engaging way which will create opportunities for them to think about their futures.
