Yarm Rugby Club
Votes So Far:
Yarm Rugby Club provides rugby training and matches for ages six up to adults covering all age ranges and running to adults and one ladies team.
The focus of our project is to increase participation of girls in sport by providing rugby training sessions. We are aware of recently published studies which show that girls engage less in sport and in particular when they move up to secondary school. There are many factors which provide barriers to engagement such as coaching availability, facilities, and having the right environment for people to feel comfortable participating.
We have also spoken to local schools who have confirmed there is a need for the sessions and also the local council see our project as a good idea and are helping to identify funding in additional to any potential funding we obtain through Venator. The funding is needed for coaching costs and equipment and we are looking to deliver the project at multiple sites throughout the 2022-23 academic year.
We feel this project will help address the issues raised in the studies, help improve health and wellbeing, promote teamwork through the rugby training sessions and increase community cohesion through working with local schools, the council and the wider community who participate in the scheme.
