As a Catholic Academy we strongly focus on ensuring that our pupils have opportunities to develop a strong sense of stewardship so that they can make the world better for future generations. As a response to the COVID-19 pandemic as well as the environmental crisis we are creating a community allotment. As a Catholic Academy we are committed to three Sustainable Development Goals: Zero Hunger, Action on Climate Change and Good Health and Well-Being. Our community allotment space will be used as an open space for our local community to reconnect, build new friendships and foster cross-generational relationships. It will include wellbeing areas as well as sensory experiences for young children. The produce grown will be used to help us become sustainable, and offered to our already successful food bank on site as well as to St. Mary's Open House who help the homeless. The space will be created and maintained by the local community as well pupils.

We have already acquired funding from various providers, including the National Lottery Community Fund which means we have the necessary funds for our polytunnels and a shed. We are still raising money for secure fencing as well as raised beds, seating areas, an outdoor gym and items needed for sensory experiences. Our school's well-being group is involved in creating the allotment space and we are working with volunteers as well as a local care home whose residents attend the site to support us.
