A kids club based at Downhill Centre in Sunderland has secured a £750 grant from the Venator Community Fund.
Community Kids Club offers childcare to children aged between 4-14 years across 13 different schools in Sunderland and South Tyneside.
It’s open before and after school, as well as during the school holidays and provides a range of activities including arts and crafts, homework club, Lego club, cookery club and gardening.
The club is putting the grant towards developing an outdoor chill out zone for the children to enjoy, which includes a canopy for shade and suitable furniture.
Maxine Thompson-Curl, Director of Community Kids Club, said: “We are overjoyed to have come runners up in the Venator Community Fund and delighted to have received £750 towards developing our outdoor chill out zone.
“We have already started work on our project and have got the children involved to help. We have ordered a cover to give us shade and have been busy researching outside furniture to put in the area.
“We have lots of other plans for our chill out zone and are hoping to have it complete by spring. Thank you to everyone who voted for us and we can’t wait to share photos of the area once it’s complete.”
