Together Fund 2019
Total Votes:
5,259

North East charity, Feeding Families, won the top grant of £1,000 after receiving over 5,259 public votes in our second Together Fund in 2019.
Feeding Families, based in Bishop Auckland, works with thousands of donor and recipient families to tackle food poverty across Northumberland, County Durham, Tyne & Wear and Cleveland each year.
The charity used its grant to develop a suite of training materials to enable it to match more families together and support more people in need. It is producing four training modules for donors, recipients, volunteers and an introduction to the charity to equip volunteers with the skills they need and make the charity’s work more sustainable for the future.
Juliet Sanders, CEO of Feeding Families, and the charity’s only employee said: “We were so thrilled that everyone got on board with the work we are doing and voted for us. We were delighted to win the top grant of £1,000, especially as we were neck and neck with other groups.
“This Christmas we had 1,700 families and 1,200 donors, so managing this growing number of people is quite a task in itself. By training every person who engages with us online in basic GDPR, safeguarding and health and safety, we’re building a stronger support foundation which will allow us to add more locations and expand our work.
“It was also great to meet and get to know members of Durham Parkrun through the Community Fund and they even ended up collecting donations for our charity from one of their runs.
“Usually, when we apply for funding, the forms are so long and take so much time, it really takes us away from the valuable work we are doing. Our Together Fund application was so easy to do and so easy to set up – we’d definitely recommend it to other charities and groups and we’d consider applying again!”
