Middlesbrough Powerchair Football Club, based at Middlesbrough Sports Village, has received a £250 grant from the Venator Community Fund.
The club, which has recently celebrated its 10th year anniversary, offers powerchair football to people with all levels of physical disability as well as all skill levels, from its development team right through to its elite team, which competes in the national league.
It currently has 32 players across four teams and is one of the biggest powerchair football clubs in the country. Sessions are held on Thursdays and Fridays each week.
The grant will be put towards a specialist powerchair which will allow more players to join the team and the club to expand further.
Carolyn Bean, Head Coach Boro PFC, said: “It’s fantastic to be a part of the Venator Community Fund and we really enjoyed getting people to vote for us. The support we have received from everyone who voted for us has been amazing and we can’t thank everyone enough.
“Receiving the grant has meant we are able to put it towards one of our specialist powerchairs which usually cost around £5,000. This will enable us to allow more people to come along and have a go at the sport.”
