Newcastle University Women’s Football Club scored a £250 grant from our Together Fund 2019 – and it’s already delivering results on the pitch.
The club, which trains and plays matches at Cochrane Park, has 30 players across two teams, as well as a Futsal team.
With a record number of sign-ups for next season, there are only 40 squad places available but more than 120 girls are wanting to join.
The club’s mixed ability 11-a-side teams play in the Northern 2B and 4B league, with the 2B squad on track for promotion at the end of this season.
Holly Allen, Treasurer of NUWFC, said: “The grant from the Venator Community Fund has allowed us to buy a new team strip for our 2s, pay our referees for home games and travel to away games.
“Looking to the future, the grant may help us reduce the cost of membership fees, making it more affordable for players, and we’re investigating how we may be able to create another team, as our current funding cannot keep up with demand.”
Tegan Coyle, President of NUWFC, said: “On behalf of the club, we’d like to thank all those people who took their time to vote for us and we were really pleased to receive the grant. It has helped us and pleases us to know that the North East is behind our team, wanting us to benefit and grow as a club.”
